Meet: Hiromi Fujiwara, MA, MS, LMHCA
BIO:
Hiromi Fujiwara, MA, MS, LMHCA is a psychotherapist at Grey Sky Counseling. She primarily works with adult individuals and groups and has recently expanded her practice as a play therapist working with children. Hiromi is incredibly passionate about walking alongside those navigating the difficult terrain of trauma, life transitions, immigration and cultural identity issues, divorce, grief, loss, parenting and a variety of relational issues. In addition to a Masters of Counseling Psychology with a concentration of trauma and abuse, her therapeutic approach is informed by a Masters in Human Development & Family Studies. With extensive personal and professional experience, Hiromi brings a wholistic approach to her therapeutic work and is proficient in holding space for complexity within the human story.

WHAT LED YOU TO THE FIELD OF COUNSELING?
I started my personal therapeutic journey years ago and came to learn about my own woundedness, ungrieved sorrows, and how I was trapped in the unwanted patterns of my life. Experiencing my own healing and freedom inspired my desire to study and practice psychotherapy because I know the profound power of therapeutic work. I cannot help but want to share this experience with others.
WHAT UNIQUE SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND/OR EXPERTISE DO YOU BRING TO YOUR ROLE AS A THERAPIST?
I often hear people comment on the peace and serenity within me, something I have come to appreciate and truly embrace as a gift, but was missing in my life for many decades. This is because I know what it's like to be a person who feels the pain of deep sorrows with numerous, serious life challenges. I have experienced anxiety and depression, have felt inadequate, lonely, and the turbulence of my own life and the lives of my loved one's being out of control. I bring compassion and empathy to my client's struggles, as well as resilience and wisdom cultivated over many years of my personal and professional work. If I can experience transformation, I believe you can too.

WHAT IS ONE SMALL BABY-STEP PEOPLE CAN DO TO IMPROVE THEIR RELATIONSHIPS?
Learn to express your desire and needs instead of criticizing and judging the other, saying "Would you consider doing...because I am needing...?" Your feelings and needs matter, and you deserve to communicate them in healthy and productive ways.
